What is a compostable bag?

A compostable bag is designed to biodegrade and disintegrate through composting under specific temperature, moisture and time conditions. Certification identifies the appropriate environment: a bag certified only for industrial composting is not necessarily suitable for home composting. Follow your local waste operator's collection instructions.

What are compostable bags made of?

They are made from biodegradable materials formulated for composting. Some blends contain starch and other plant-based components alongside biodegradable polymers. The composition varies by product: compostable does not necessarily mean 100% plant-based. Check the technical data sheet for the material and certification of a specific bag.

Which compostable bag do I need for my application?

For organic waste collection, choose a bag suited to the bin, waste weight and moisture. For food or food retail, select a product suitable for food contact.
